German Shepherd Husky is a striking mix of German Shepherd and Siberian Husky.

Weighing 35-90 pounds and measuring 20-26 inches in length, this is a medium to large dog that requires a lot of exercise and daily care. Typically, it is intelligent, loyal, and active.

The German Shepherd and Husky mix are created by combining a German Shepherd and Siberian Husky mix. They can be the first cross with a GSD parent and a Husky parent or part of a mixed breed of German Shepherd and Husky.

To really get to know the Siberian Husky GSD mix, you need to start at the beginning. And I mean right at the very beginning.

The Shepsky

The Shepsky dog breed Size

Since the Shepsky is a relatively new breed, there are few standards regarding the size. However, as a mix of Shepherd and Siberian Husky parents, you can expect Shepskies to be medium to large in size.

Most weigh 45 to 88 pounds and are between 20 and 25 inches tall at the shoulder. However, many can be smaller or larger.

Siberian Husky Highlights

Shepskies are mixed breed dogs. They are not purebreds like their German Shepherd or Siberian Husky parents.

The main colors of Shepskies are brown, black, cream, white, red, and blue. Their coats are rarely solid and generally consist of two or more colors.

The Siberian Husky

Shepskies usually have long, dense coats and are generally not recommended for people with allergies. They tend to shed quite a bit.

Shepskies have a lot of energy and do not do well in apartments or houses where they are left alone for long periods of time.

The ancestors of these dogs come from cold climates and therefore tolerate cold weather very well.

Some say the Shepsky is a cross between a babysitter and a police officer, gently handling and protecting the children in their family.

History and original purpose of the German Shepherd Husky Mix

The Husky German Shepherd mix is a fairly new combination. But both of its parents have a fascinating and rather long history. And we can tell quite a lot about this sweet cross by taking a look into the past.

German Shepherd Dog History

In 1899, a German named Max von Stephanitz had a series of visions of the perfect German Shepherd at a dog show. He was so impressed that he bought the dog immediately. Earlier attempts to categorize and standardize the different types of German Shepherds had already failed. So von Stephanitz created his own breed. He made his new dog at the very beginning.

This dog was named Horand von Grafath. He was the very first German Shepherd. Every pedigree of the German Shepherd you see today is originally descended from him. And it didn’t take very long to convince the entire world how great the new German Shepherds were.

Siberian Husky History

Siberian Huskies, on the other hand, have a long history.

They are descended from the dogs bred by nomadic Chukchi people in northeastern Siberia to pull their sleds.

The Chukchi have been breeding and working huskies for hundreds of years. They built on the work of other tribes who had previously domesticated dogs for thousands of years.

Siberian Huskies as we know them reached America in the early 20th century. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Things to know about the German Shepherd Husky Mix

Crossbreed puppies of Siberian Huskies and German Shepherds still have a low profile compared to Labradoodle and Cockapoo.

But what do you even call the offspring of a German Shepherd and a Siberian Husky?

Herman Shusky? Germusky?

And German Shepherds and Husky mix dogs existed long before a name was coined.

But they’ve been around long enough now to reach a consensus. The verdict is:

Gerberian Shepsky.

It’s not exactly catchy, but it seems to be the one that’s stuck!

German Shepherd Husky Mix Appearance

When two different pedigrees are paired, their puppies can inherit the physical characteristics of both breeds. And they will most likely get a mix of both.

German Shepherd Husky Mix Size

Compared to some of the inappropriate dog parents these days, German Shepherds and Huskies have fairly complementary appearances.

They both have erect ears and dignified expressions. They look well built and athletic.

Both breeds have a double coat that looks deep and cozy.

Overall, Huskies are medium-sized dogs. They weigh 35-60 pounds. There are more males at the top end of the range and more females at the bottom end. From the ground to the shoulders, they are 20 to 23 inches tall.

German shepherds are larger. They weigh 49-88 pounds and stand 22-26 inches from ground to shoulder. Again, males are usually larger than females.

When a Husky-Sheepdog mix puppy grows up, it will be somewhere between the smallest Husky and the largest German Shepherd.

German Shepherd Husky Mix Color

The outline of a German Shepherd and a Husky could be quite similar. However, the true diversity lies in their coloration.

The most striking Husky-Sheepdog mix dogs inherit the dark coat of their German Shepherd parent and the bright blue eyes of their Husky parent.

But German Shepherds actually come in a variety of colors, from sable to silver to white. Siberian Huskies can be red or even white.

German shepherd husky mix temperament

While the physical appearance and characteristics of a German Shepherd Husky mix puppy are relatively predictable, its temperament can be far more diverse.

Because a full-grown adult temperament is difficult to judge in a Husky German Shepherd puppy, it is especially important to meet both of your puppy’s parents before you commit.

Remember that your puppy could inherit all the personality traits of one parent. Then ask yourself if you would be happy if either parent was at home.

Training your German Shepherd Husky Mix

Siberian Huskies and German Shepherds are both amazingly intelligent breeds of dogs with a strong working instinct.

Bored or cramped Shepskies are more likely to exhibit undesirable behaviors. Chewing, digging, and trying to escape can also be serious problems.

Husky and German Shepherd Mix Cost

A German Shepherd Husky Mix puppy costs between 350 USD and 1000 USD. The cost eventually depends on the breeder. A mix from two purebred parents with pedigrees is more expensive. You can also try to adopt a dog from your local dog house.
