Christmas love stories are a staple of the holiday season, but some of us find dogs to be more dependable and less dramatic sources of the warm and fuzzy sensations of companionship.

So, for us, there is no better way to get into the Christmas mood than by viewing Christmas-themed films featuring dogs. Dog movies are amazing for family.

 

Hence, let the festive magic commence!

The holiday season is the ideal time to grab a cup of hot chocolate and cuddle up with your Service Dog, Working Dog, or pet!

Here are a few of our favorite holiday dog movies that are sure to get you in the  spirit.

 

#1. A Dog Named Christmas –  Year: 2009

A Dog Named Christmas is the story of Todd, a 20-year-old man with developmental delays who adores animals.

When Todd learns that the local animal shelter wants to adopt out dogs for Christmas, he enthusiastically agrees, much to his father George’s dismay.

Todd is eventually granted permission to bring home a yellow lab that he calls Christmas due to his insistence.

The family had no idea that Christmas will forever alter their lives. Here is the trailer for the film.

 

#2. Beethoven’s Christmas Adventure – Year: 2011

The return of our favorite Saint Bernard in Beethoven’s Christmas Adventure.

Beethoven must recover the magical toy bag and return it to Santa in time for Christmas after Santa’s sleigh crashes in a tiny town and the bag is stolen. Undoubtedly a family favorite.

 

#3. The 12 Dogs of Christmas

It is Christmas in 1930s Pittsburgh, but 12-year-old Emma O’Connor, who has been transferred to her “Aunt” Delores’ home in Doverville, Maine, expects a miserable holiday.

Emma finds herself unwelcomed by Delores and in the thick of a town conflict over the “No Dogs Allowed” legislation upon her arrival.

Emma, with the assistance of her classmates, an improbable group of adults, and a diverse canine corps of over 60 canines, attempts to win over the inhabitants of Doverville by creating a holiday spectacle titled “The 12 Dogs of Christmas,” which may save not only the dogs but also Emma.

The 12 dogs of Christmas tells the story of a little girl named Emma who employs 12 special dogs to teach others the true meaning of Christmas. Here is the trailer.

#4. 12 Dogs of Christmas: Great Puppy Rescue

12 Dogs of Christmas: Great Puppy Rescue was the sequel to The 12 Dogs of Christmas. Emma is back, but this time she is attempting to save a local dog orphanage by organizing a large holiday gala. Here is the trailer.

 

#5. Buddies Movies – Year: 2010

As a sequel to the original Air Bud films, Disney has developed three buddy films that children will enjoy. Santa Buddies (2009), The Search for Santa Paws (2010), and Santa Paws 2 are the titles (2012).  View the trailer of this film below.

 

#6. The Dog Who Saved Christmas – Year: 2009

When the Bannisters bring home a new dog named Zeus, he does not appear to be the guard dog that the family desires.

However, when two thieves sneak into their home while they are on vacation, Zeus sets out to prove them incorrect. Here is the trailer.

 

#7. The Dog Who Saved Christmas Vacation

A sequel to the Dog Who Saved Christmas, titled the Dog Who Saved Christmas Vacation, was released a year later.

Here Zeus returns, but this time he joins the Bannister family on their Christmas holiday and assists them when danger arises.

This film was followed by a sequel titled The Dog Who Saved the Holidays (2012).

 

#8. A Golden Christmas

Fans of Golden Retrievers will like this film. A Golden Christmas is the story of two former loves who return to their hometown as adults and discover they are competing for the same house.

However, with the assistance of a particular Golden Retriever, they overcome their difficulties and find love in the process.

If you enjoy this book, A Golden Christmas 2 (2011) and A Golden Christmas 3 (2012) have already been published.

 

 

#9. An All Dogs Christmas Carol – Years  1998

A sequel to All Dogs Go to Heaven features a unique take on the famous Scrooge story. An All Dogs Christmas Carol is an older animated film, but it is a classic that children will adore. Here is a preview below.

 

 

#10. A Dog for Christmas – Year: 2015

When Kassandra requests a puppy for Christmas, her parents refuse her request. In A Dog for Christmas, Kassandra relies on Santa to grant her Christmas wish. Here is the trailer.

#11. All I Want for Christmas is You –  Year: 2017

All I Want for Christmas is You, one of the more recent films on the list, centers on a girl named Mariah who wants a puppy for Christmas.

In order to demonstrate her maturity to her parents, she agrees to watch her uncle’s dog, Jack. However, Jack is not very well-behaved, posing a challenge for Mariah.

Additionally, Christmas tunes by Mariah Carey are included throughout the film.

 

#12. Paw Patrol: Pups Save Christmas – Year: 2013

For very young children, there is Paw Patrol: Pups Save Christmas. After Santa’s sleigh crashes, this film follows the Paw Patrol dogs as they attempt to rescue Christmas. Here is a brief clip.

 

 

#13. A Veteran’s Christmas – Year: 2018

A Veteran’s Christmas is a 2018 release from Hallmark Movies. Grace gets dismissed from the marines and separated from her K-9 partner in this film.

Grace’s Jeep breaks down at River Crossing, where she rediscovers her passion for Christmas and receives a wonderful gift. Here you can view a sneak peek and the trailer.

 

 

#14. Olive, The Other Reindeer – Year: 1999

Olive, a Christmas-obsessed dog (voiced by Drew Barrymore), comes to the rescue when one of Santa’s reindeer is injured.

The computer-generated animated Christmas television special Olive, the Other Reindeer was created by Steve Young and directed by Oscar Moore.

Steve Young also voiced Olive. DNA Productions was in charge of the animation for the feature film, which was produced by Matt Groening’s The Curiosity Company.

 

 

#15. The Nightmare Before Christmas

Zero, the ghost dog belonging to Jack Skellington, may be the undervalued hero of Tim Burton’s eerie holiday classic. He is everything a dog should be: devoted and trustworthy.

I adore how he impersonates Santa’s reindeer by lighting the hazy Christmas Eve sky with his lit pumpkin nose and how he is constantly by Jack’s side throughout this eerie Christmas journey. (1993 release date).

 

 

#16. How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

This could be my favorite Christmas movie of all time, the 1966 animated version. This film’s unsung hero is Max, the Grinch’s dog, who strives to satisfy his grouchy master.

However, this clip should not be used as training advise or as an example of how to properly train your dog. Poor Max is mistreated for the majority of the film, but there is a happy ending.

 

 

#17. Eight Below (2006)

As with many other topics, the globe is divided into two factions regarding Christmas-themed films.

People who believe Christmas films must contain the word “Christmas” in the title and every festive cliché. Then there are those who believe a film qualifies as a Christmas movie candidate if it invokes the holidays and gives you a festive mood.

Eight Below, a 2006 film starring Paul Walker, is ideal Christmas viewing. Snowy landscapes are present. Fluffy dogs, check.

Check for instances of canine bravery and devotion. Feel your heart explode with delight as you watch it during the holidays in your jammies with a large supply of munchies.

 

 

#18. Project: Puppies for Christmas

Two little girls want puppies for Christmas so passionately that they set out to accomplish as many good actions as possible.

When their old, grumpy neighbor (John Ratzenberger) refuses to embrace their Christmas cheer, they meet their equal, but they refuse to give up.

This film has fewer dogs than others on this list, but the puppies we do see are so adorable that it should be illegal.

 

#19. Togo – Official Trailer 

An Original Movie starring Willem Dafoe and Julianne Nicholson.

Togo” is based on an untold true story that takes place in the winter of 1925 in Alaska and traverses the perilous terrain of the Alaskan tundra for an exhilarating and uplifting adventure that will test the strength, courage, and determination of one man, Leonhard Seppala, and his lead sled dog, Togo.

Togo” is based on the untold true story On December 20, 2019, the heartfelt and profoundly moving journey will make its premiere on Disney+.

 

#20. Scrooge: A Christmas Carol – 2022

This supernatural, time-traveling, musical adaptation of the definitive Christmas story was produced by Timeless Films in association with Axis Studios and directed by Stephen Donnelly.

Charles Dickens’ ageless legend is reborn in this adaptation, and Timeless Films is responsible for its production.

 

 

#21. The puppies from Lady and the Tramp

Following the blossoming of Lady and Tramp’s love during the springtime, the couple is presented with the Christmas miracle of babies.

This final scene does an excellent job of capturing both the mischievous nature of young puppies as well as the sense of love and family that we all crave throughout the holiday season.

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.”

 

This rottweiler is famed for “yakking on a bone” and leading the squirrel chase that tears apart the Griswold family residence. Another mutt that ruins an already dysfunctional Christmas Dinner, this mutt is responsible for this rottweiler’s notoriety.

Unfortunately, it’s likely that this movie is to blame for the unfavorable stereotypes associated with rottweilers; yet, there are moments when a dog just can’t help but give chase.
