Hexydog Introduces Digital Tools to Support Animal Welfare and Local Pet Services

Last Updated on July 22, 2025 by Dogs Vets

There is a new movement that is emerging between animal care and technology. Hexydog, a project founded on a mission of shelter support and ease of access to services, is developing digital infrastructure that will improve the flow of resources in the worldwide pet care system.

In recent weeks, the team behind Hexydog partnered with local animal shelters in northern Italy to distribute food for stray dogs and cats. The initiative was one of the first practical steps of the project as it showed that it was not only interested in technical development but actually wanted to interact with communities.

Donation System Built Around Shelter Needs

Hexydog has announced the establishment of a long-term funding mechanism called the Hexy Rescue Fund. Five percent of the project’s total allocation has been committed to this initiative, which is designed to support verified shelters in the United States, Europe, and Southeast Asia.

The fund will not be spread out in single campaigns. Rather, it is organized in a periodic support structure, depending on regional needs and continuous evaluation of shelter conditions. Nikoleta Vassilou, the team member we met in pet care event says its aim is to provide consistent access to veterinary services, food supplies, and emergency care facilities.

To manage the distribution, Hexydog has created a payment layer called Hexypay. The system is being tested to enable shelters to receive support with full transparency while bypassing delays or fees tied to international bank transfers.

Platform in Development for Small Providers

Alongside its shelter work, Hexydog is also building a digital marketplace for pet-related services. The platform will allow independent veterinarians, groomers, trainers, and care providers to offer their services to a wider audience. Businesses will be able to receive payments through the same infrastructure used in the donation system.

The marketplace is being designed to reduce financial friction, particularly for small providers operating outside of major urban areas. The project team has indicated that provider onboarding will prioritize businesses with limited access to global payment tools.

Coordination with Advocacy and Industry Groups

In an effort to align its tools with existing standards, Hexydog has entered into conversations with advocacy and trade groups including the American Pet Products Association (APPA) and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

Although the partnerships are in early stages, the project’s leadership says the goal is to ensure that the platform reflects the values and priorities of the animal welfare sector. The team has also noted that it does not intend to replace traditional frameworks, but rather to build supporting infrastructure around them.

Focused Development over Promotion

Unlike most technology ventures within the pet care industry, Hexydog has decided against the fast-paced feature releases or marketing campaigns. The existing road map focuses on three points: stable financing of shelters, online access to service providers, and direct cooperation with welfare establishments.

The team has said its next steps will include further food distribution programs, onboarding of partner clinics, and expanding testing of its payment tool in early adopter shelters.

As animal care organizations continue to adapt to limited resources and growing demand, projects like Hexydog represent a shift toward infrastructure-first solutions built to support—not replace—the people already doing the work on the ground.
